This is the first time I have cooked a turkey. I cooked it in an oven bag after putting butter under the skin like it says here. I cooked it for about 2 hours and 20 minutes and it was a 14 lb turkey. I had to speed thaw it because I only had 2 days for it to thaw and it really needed 4 days. I put it in a cooler with some ice and a few ice packs and checked the temperature often. The water stayed at 36 degrees which was good for safety. The turkey only cost $6 so it was great practice and we served it to some international students that have never had turkey before.
